The Butter Keeper is used so refrigeration is not necessary and can be used in it’s soft form to be easily spread, while it maintaining freshness. Water creates an airtight seal, keeping oxygen out. Butter will keep for about a month provided it is kept at temperatures below 80 °F and the water is changed every 2-3 days. If the Butter Keeper is not going to be used for several days, it can be placed in the refrigerator. Turn top (lid) upside down and firmly pack with butter. Place about 1/2" of water in bottom of base or less. You don't want it to overflow.
